CMS Math Teams Recognized!

The CMS Math Teams have been recognized lately in a couple of places.  The Cullman City Schools Annual Report for 2009-2010 is located on the City Schools website or you can view it here.  There is a picture of a U-Teach presentation and also a picture of the award winning 9th graders.  Also, you all are mentioned in the middle school achievements section.  This is a terrific publication for our schools.  It also shows our ranking of third in the state on SAT 10.

Mathew Crawford of Mist Academy in Vestavia had some nice things to say about our teams.  Click here and scroll down to the Dec. 16 Vestavia results for Algebra I and pre-algebra.  We are so proud of your first place victories at Vestavia.  Lots of hard work!  Thanks to Mrs. Huser for the very nice goody bags for Vestavia.

Upcoming events:
Jan. 22 - Muscle Shoals (7th and 8th grades)
Jan. 24 - Math Team Parent Meeting in the library at 6:30 pm.  At least one parent should attend.
Feb. 5 - Grissom (7th and 8th grades)

Christmas Parties - What Fun!

The 7th grade Christmas party was held at the Robinson's home.  We roasted marshmallows and made smores over the fire.  We also had the pizza, sausage balls, cupcakes and the chips that we requested.  Thank you parents.  Some played basketball and others sat around the fire and talked.  Dirty Santa was a lot of fun.  Seth loved his sign that David brought, wearing it around his neck.  There were lots of gift cards which everyone liked.  Everyone had a great time!  Thank you for the gifts and the generous gift card.  My family and I will enjoy it during the holidays.

The 8th grade party was held at the McLeroy's.  Everything was perfect.  We had lots of food, and especially enjoyed those frosted cookies we all like, Mrs. Hollingsworth's sausage muffins, the cheesecake from Mrs. Addison, the pretzel-Rollo-peanut butter candies that the Trelles' brought and all the great food that Mrs. McLeroy had for us.  Many played games and ping pong with Nicholas serving at the net, very funny!  We enjoyed eating together, the boys at the dining table and the girls in the kitchen.  Thanks to the moms and dads that dropped by.  This year's Dirty Santa game was lots of fun.  Branch finally ended it, thank goodness.  The gifts cards were a hit as well as the bracelets.  We probably overstayed our welcome, so thanks to the McLeroy's for putting up with us so long.  We took a great picture that we sent to the parents as a Christmas card.  Wish everyone could have been there but this is a busy time of the year. Thank you for my gifts.  You all are so good to me and I truly have the best job in the world.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all.

So proud of our kids.  See you on Jan. 4 as we gear up for Muscle Shoals,

Welcome to the CMS Math Team Blog!

I hope you enjoy this blog for the Cullman Middle Math Teams.  This site will give parents a chance to post comments for the students and for students to comment on the teams.  It will act as a means of communication for students, parents and just to let you know the happenings of our teams.

Hope you all have a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.  We have had a stellar year thus far with our trip to McWane and then our first place finishes at Vestavia.  In 2011 we will be at Muscle Shoals on Jan. 22, Grissom on Feb. 5 and Pizitz on Feb. 26.  Thanks to the parents for a big turnout at Vestavia.  I can't say enough about the performance of the math teamers on Dec. 11.  It was a fun bus ride home for sure.  We received 17 individual awards and 5 placed on the mental math and speed math.  We also won the ciphering competitions for 7th and 8th grades.  We hope to carry this momentum into Muscle Shoals.

The 8th Grade morning practice will start on Jan. 4, our first day back at school.  This will give us three weeks to prepare for Muscle Shoals.  Enjoy the rest of your holidays.  Go Bearcats!
