Strong Finish at Pizitz for CMS Math Teams

Congratulations to the 8th graders for 5 first place finishes in a row!  The team placed 1st in Division 2 out of 16 other teams and 5th overall out of 36 teams (outstanding).  The team placed 2nd in ciphering.  Way to go!  

Individual winners:
Nicholas Fillinger - 2nd (6th overall out of 261.  Very impressive!)
Ben Ratliff - 3rd  Excellent! (11th overall)
Molly McLeroy - 5th place - 12th overall (Great job!)

The 7th grade finished in 2nd place by 12 points to Homewood.  We are proud of your effort today.  Looking forward to what you will accomplish at Hoover next week. 

Congratulations to:
Andy Robinson and Will Raney for an impressive 2nd and 3rd place, respectively.  It was so exciting as the top ten were announced and Andy and Will were still standing until the end. Andy finished 9th out of all 343 students while Will was 10th.  What a great feat!  The team finished 2nd in ciphering. 

We are gearing up for Hoover next week and will leave at 6:00 am again.  It is an excellent tournament also.  We will be eating at Stix in Hoover around 12:00 noon.  Awards are at 2:00 in the Hoover High School gym.

ALA-LA-MISS Test - Feb. 15

The 7th and 8th grade took the ALA-LA-MISS Test on Tuesday, Feb. 15. The top five scores from each grade will be submitted to the Math League and will be compared with scores in the tri-state area. 

8th Grade - 1st Drake (33 of 35 Terrific score), 2nd Nicholas (28), 3rd Caden (25), 4th Ben Ratliff (22), 5th Michael Bentley (22), 6th Jackson Hill (21), 7th Molly McLeroy (21)

7th Grade - 1st Emily Dale (27 - Great job!), 2nd Noah Shadix (25), 2nd Andy Robinson (25), 3rd Emma Hicks (23), 3rd Hope Mason (23), 4th Austin Tankersley (21).

On April 15, we will find out how we fared against Alabama schools as well as those in Louisiana and Mississippi.

8th Grade Take 7 out of 8 top awards - First Place Team Overall

The 8th grade math team had a fantastic day at Boaz with 49 ciphering points, 34 more than the nearest competitor.  Great job by Drake, Molly, Claire and Ben.  Also, out of the eight awards, CMS took seven of them and several were in the top 20.  Many had their best score this year.  Thanks to our moms that came to Boaz to cheer us on and enjoy a "little" shopping.

CMS Math Teamers Shine at Grissom

Congratulations to the 7th and 8th grade teams for their 1st place finishes at Grissom despite not having the ciphering scores added to the team score.  Great job to both teams for keeping your composure during the day.  The individual awards were combined for both divisions:  7th grade had 7 of the 25 awards and the 8th grade had 10 individual awards out of 25. The 8th graders go to Boaz Saturday, Feb. 12 and the 7th graders will be taking their ACT.  Next tournament together is at Pizitz on Feb. 26.

Grissom Math Tournament - Feb. 5

6: 15 am - Leave by bus for Grissom (we will probably take Eva Road)
7:15 am - Eat at Chick-fil-A close to Whitesburg Drive in south Huntsville.
8:00 - 8:30 am - Registration
8:45 - 10 am - Written Test for pre-algebra and Algebra I
10 am - 10:30 am - Refreshments
10:45 - 12:00 am - Ciphering for pre-algebra and Algebra I
12:00 pm - 2:00 pm - Lunch at Parkway Place Mall
2:00 pm - Leave Mall
2:30 pm - Awards Ceremony (Parents encouraged to attend)
