Remember to study all TKK sheets, old tests, textbook, etc. during the week of Dec. 5 - 9.  Many of you have a great opportunity to place and we must study hard to place first again this year.  I would love to see several of you place in the mental math competition.

AMC 8 Results Are In

Congratulations to Noah Shadix for winning first place on the American Mathematics Competition test.  He scored 18 out of 25 for honors.  Also placing were Will Raney (2nd - 17 and honors) and Marissa Shutt (16 - 3rd place).  Jake Ratliff was the high scorer for the 7th grade with a score of 15.

Any student scoring 17 or above received honors and are in the top 5% of all test takers.  Quite an accomplishment for Noah and Will with Marissa right behind them.  Terrific scores considering a difficult test and only 40 minutes to work.

McWane and Vestavia Hills Up Next

McWane Center - Dec. 2 and 3 (leave school at 3:30 pm and return at 10:00 on Saturday morning).  Mr. Page will dirve our bus.  We need parents to take luggage and meet us there around 5:00 pm.

Vestavia Hills Math Tournament - Dec. 10 (lunch at Brookwood Mall)  Awards at 2:00 pm.

AMC Test - Tuesday, Nov. 15

The AMC 8 is a 25 question, 40 minute multiple choice examination in middle school mathematics designed to promote the development and enhancement of problem solving skills. This school year it will be held Tuesday, November 15, 2011.   The top three 8th graders and the top scoring 7th grader will be recognized on awards day.

Purpose

The mission of the MAA Competitions is to increase interest in mathematics and to develop problem solving through a fun competition.  Students gain the opportunity to learn and achieve through competition with students in their school and from around the world. Teachers and schools benefit from the chance to challenge students with interesting mathematical questions that are aligned with curriculum standards at all levels of difficulty.

CMS Math Teams Shine at Muscle Shoals - Take 1st

I am so proud of the hard work put in these past couple of weeks since the Cedar Ridge Tournament.  Today we continued our 4 year winnning streak at Muscle Shoals with both team having a stellar day on the test and in ciphering.  The 8th graders were 2nd out of 16 teams, with only Pizitz ahead of them in ciphering.  

Many students had their personal best today.  Also, a huge sincere thank you to the BEST parents in the whole wide world.  It means so much to look over and see so many parents and family members in the stands supporting us and cheering us on.   Your sacrifices really make a difference !    You are an integral part of the team.  Thanks to Mrs.Elizabeth  Collicott and Mrs. Bama Turner for the VERY NICE goody bags.  We enjoyed them.

6:15 – 6:50 Eat breakfast at Burger King on Hwy 157

8:00   Registration

8:30 – 9:45  7^th and 8^th Test

9:45 – 10:15  Refreshments (cafeteria)

10:15 – 11:30  7^th and 8^th Ciphering (board bus immediately after ciphering)

11:30 – 1:30  Lunch and shopping at the Mall (Florence’s Regency Square)

1:30 – Bus leaves from mall  (Stay in a groups of 3 or 4 and be on time to the bus)

2:00 - Awards in gym (All parents encouraged to attend.  Thanks for your support!)

Return to CMS at approximately 4:30 pm.

The 8th grade math team had four individual places and finished 2nd by only 12 points.  So close guys.  The 7th graders placed 3rd by 21 points.  (If each person gets 1 more question correct we are in the hunt for 1st place.  We are a good team and want to become a GREAT TEAM.  Looking forward to first place finishes at Muscle Shoals in 2 weeks.  I have no doubt that you can do it.  It will take lots of hardwork to be prepared.
